Show Selection

How do I propose a show for next semester?

Any Wesleyan undergraduate student can propose a show to be produced in Spike Tape’s upcoming season, regardless of theater experience! Here is what you need to propose a show:

  1. A show! For published plays and musicals, the rights must be available (Google if unsure), and we will not consider shows produced at Wesleyan in the last 3 years. For original works by Wesleyan undergraduates, you will need a completed script (though it does not necessarily need to be a final draft). Spike Tape does not produce capstone/thesis projects, non-theatrical dance shows, or devised theater.

  2. A team. All proposals are required to have a director. Specialized projects will be expected to have the appropriate directors (e.g. musical director for a musical, puppet master for a puppet shows, etc.) You are not expected to have a full production team going into show proposals; Spike Tape can help you find collaborators after your project has been selected.

  3. Information related to your vision for this specific production. Why do you want to produce this show? When in the semester would you like to perform it? Where would you like to see it staged? Is there any sensitive material Spike Tape should be aware of?

Every production team will fill out a proposal form and will schedule a 15 minute presentation with the Show Selection Committee in order to pitch their show and concept.

Show Selection Committee

Any Spike Tape member that is not already attached to a show proposal can be a part of the Show Selection Committee. The committee will meet at the end of the semester to see the presentations and select the shows for the following season.

*More specific dates and information will be available toward the end of the semester.
